Citizens Donates New Refrigerated Truck to Support NH Food Bank’s Statewide Food Distribution Efforts
New “Squash Hunger” truck is one of two NH Food Bank delivery trucks supported by Citizens funding
Manchester, N.H. – Citizens donated a new refrigerated, box truck to the New Hampshire Food Bank on Thursday, September 22, to support the Food Bank’s statewide food distribution efforts. The new “Squash Hunger” truck, which is one of two refrigerated food distribution trucks supported by Citizens funding, features a newly designed wrap highlighted by an image of a squash with the tag line “Squash Hunger.” The Citizens truck donation comes as part of Hunger Action Month, which is a month-long campaign aimed at raising awareness for the 7% of New Hampshire residents—including 9.5% of children—who are food insecure, meaning they do not know where their next meal will come from.
“Citizens has been a tremendous supporter of the New Hampshire Food Bank for years and we are incredibly grateful for this new truck, which will have a major positive impact on our efforts to reliably distribute nutritious food to our more than 400 partner agencies across the state,” said Eileen Liponis, Executive Director, New Hampshire Food Bank. “This donation comes at a critical time when the need continues to grow. This crucial support helps us fight back on hunger, getting us closer to our goal of eliminating hunger in the Granite State.”
The New Hampshire Food Bank and Citizens unveiled the new delivery truck during a special event at the Food Bank in Manchester. Along with supporting statewide food distribution, the new truck enhances the New Hampshire Food Bank’s capacity to hold mobile food pantries in remote locations around the state in response to local need.
“It’s quite sobering to think that nearly 95,000 people face hunger in the Granite State which means while we realize it or not, we all know someone facing food insecurity,” said Joe Carelli, President, Citizens NH. “Citizens is committed to partnering with organizations like the NH Food Bank that work hard to make a difference for residents who need a helping hand.”
In 2021, the New Hampshire Food Bank distributed more than 17 million pounds of food to more than 400 nonprofit food agencies in all corners of New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Food Bank expects to continue increasing food distribution to meet the need.
